A helical stainless staircase with a continuous curved handrail, fabricated to fit a double-height residential atrium and finished in PVD bronze.
Project overview
The staircase forms the centerpiece of the home, rising through an open atrium where every angle is visible. The curved stringers, tread supports and handrail were fabricated as matching continuous curves, then given a warm PVD bronze finish to complement the interior palette.
The challenge
A helical stair has no straight reference surfaces, so every segment had to match the modeled curve precisely. The handrail needed to flow as one uninterrupted piece, and the structure had to meet residential load requirements.
Our solution
We fabricated from a full 3D model, rolling the stringers and handrail to the exact helix and using jigs to hold tread positions. The handrail was formed in sections that joined with polished internal connectors. The completed structure was trial-assembled in the workshop before finishing and crating.
